Antarctica

These past few weeks we have been focusing on Antarctica. We have been given heaps of websites and from the websites we have had to write a least 2 pages of facts in our onebook. One of the facts I found really interesting was that there are no polar bears in Antarctica I thought there were. Another in couple of interesting facts are

It takes about 5 hours to get from christchurh to Ross island on Antarctica.

In winter there is no daylight and in summer there is no night.

Less than 1% of Antarctica is rock free ice.

Today I learnt how to write a limerick poem. I struggled to to come up with rhyming words and make it flow but my poem now poem flows and rhymes. I had help to make it rhyme and make it flow and next time I think I would be able to do it by my self.

Nepal Drowns Dangerous Everest Mountain Lake

This week I choose to read an article from the world category about lake Imja. The lake depth was originally 149 meters deep in some places, now it has had its water levels lowed by 3.4 meters. I was shocked at how deep this was. Many of the lakes have said to be filling up fast because of the glaciers melting and the rising global warming temperatures. This is grate news for anyone who's planing on climbing the mountain because the water levels wont be as high.

All Blacks

This week I chose my article from the world category. My Article was about the All Blacks creating history with 18 straight wins. This is an outstanding job from the Kiwis because New Zealand isn't very big compered to South Africa, Australia and Argentina. Winning 18 times in a row is a record for a series of nations.

Rounding

This week I have now got a better understanding of round up and down from maths hub. At first I struggled with rounding to the nearest ten but now I get it. This is how I did it: 5.34 if i need to round this number to the nearest tenth then I need to look in the tenths place. In the tenth place is .3 so then I need to look at the digit in the next place if it's bigger than 5 then I round it up but if its smaller then 5 I keep the digit the same. So the answer is going to be 5.3.

I have just read on kiwi kids new that there has been evidince of Jupiters moon Europa spewing out water jets into space. Here is some more infomation I found out. Sientist first discovered this odd behaviour for Europa in 2013 using a telescop called the hubble telescope but now they have made a following up sighting. Its significent because Europa is one if the most likey places to find microbial life beyond Earth. Sientist want to get a small sample of the water so they can run tests. I found this really intresting to read because I never new that a planet or a moon could do such a thing.

Microbial life means:Microbes are single-cell organisms. They are the oldest form of life on earth.

Organisims means:A single animal.

Camp

We have just got back from camp it was so much fun. We did heaps of activites like kyaking wasterslides building a raft and human fusball these are only some of the activites we have done. My favourite activite was when we went down to the river and built rafts and went down the waterslide. The food was so great espically yhe pudding. We went to bed late and got up early so when we got back we were all super tired.

The fishing adventure

Pua cast his line out from the dinghy and it snagged straight away. Uncle tried to help him reel it in but it wouldn’t budge. Suddenly the skies turned grey and the sea got choppy. And a giant pirate ship bubbled up from the depths of the ocean, dwarfing Uncles dinghy.

Merman/pirates have been living in the ancient abden pirate ship.One of them said confused “how did we get here above the water?” another one said “I don’t know but we will have to investigate.”They all looked over the edge of the and saw Pua and his Uncle.They threw a rope over the edge for them to climb up.The merman/pirates wanted to know how the ship came a float.Pua and his Uncle filled them in and went to go climb back down but there dinghy had floated away because they forgot to put down the anchor.So now they were traped on a ship that could sink at any second.

The merman/pirates said “make yourself at how but we mainly eat seaweed soup so get use to that oh and also give yourselves a self led tour of the place and the best part is coming soon we will be going back under water.”Pua and his Uncle went on with there self led tour and tried to come up with a way to get of the ship, they were on the lookout for something that they could sail away on.

They found a loose wood platform and some treasure and because they found the treasure they were trying to sneak off the ship.They were just about to jump off the ship when they heard someone say “get em.” They got caught and then got tied to the flag pole. Pua and his Uncle heard them trying discuss a punishment while they were trying to make an escape plan. They didn’t come up with a plan 1 because they didn’t have much to work with and 2 it didn’t take long for the merman/pirates to come up with a punishment.

“Here they come” said Pua with fear.We are going to make you walk the plank and we are taking away your life jackets oh and one more thing you will be doing it tonight and until then you will remain tied up.

Pua and his Uncle were now ready to walk the plank of course they couldn’t turn back. So they did it and no one realised that the boat had drifted away to a close island and so they weaved through the water all the way to the island. On the Island were coconut trees so for 2 days they drank the milk from the coconuts until the rescue team came and saved them.

Waterline

These past few weeks we have had a waterline lady come in and inform us about water wich we thinkis an unlimeted supply.We have learned why the water tastes different in other towns and citys.That is because the concils use different cleaning methods when the water come in from streams and sometimes they add stuff to the water to make it cleaner and safer to drink.That is just one of the many reasons that we have learned.

Maths

Today we did a maths problem. This was the problem: Lee and Jamie have decided to buy their father a card for father's day. The card is going to cost $5.95. Lee puts in 35c more than Jamie. How much does each child contribute. I found this easy once it was explained a bit to me. Here is how I worked it out.

Maths Reflection

Today we did decemal problems. We had to make all the vowls in our name worth 0.5 and all the other letters worth 1.3 and then add the value up to see what our total was.I found this fun and easy.

R.E Reflection

This term for R.E we are focusing on the 7 sacraments.
We have been reading gospels and figuring out what sacrament fits into it.
These are the 7 sacraments: Marriage Baptism Holy Communion Conformation Penece Ordanition Anoting of the sick.
We have put all these sacraments into catagories.
We have just started learning this so I don't know a lot but I will add more as I learn more.
         

Writing Reflection

Over this past term we have been learning how to describe a moment in time.Writing Reflection

I have been learning to use figurative langue which is similes, metaphors, personification and more.We also have been learning to write in first person which is like "I am" or "we are" and we also have been learning to write in present tense which is we are going shopping not we have been shopping.This has been fun but we have been doing it a lot so it is getting boring.

Super Solver

My name is Talia Kent I  have a friend called Ashley Axe together we make a great team.I am superhero and Ashley is my sidekick.Mother by day superhero by night.

So I am a superhero I bet you're itching to find out my powers.My powers are dangorsley deadly.I have griped gloves and when I hold my palm up lightning bolts come powering out.Also if her fingers can touch you when she is wearing her gloves an eltric wave will travel through your body.Her gloves give her the power to hold 1000 tones.My sky blue full body suit gives me the power to walk through walls.When you tap her charcaol beltbuckle a deflector sheild expands out.I wear a face mask  to hide my identy which also gives me the power to breath underwater.At night the mask gives her night vision.I have a shoulder pad on each shoulder and on the pads are one rifle.She waers rocket boots so she can soar over the city.

My sidekick is Ashley Axe she helps me dominate my enemy's. She doesn’t have any superpowers but she carries round stun lasers and holds a charcoal black shield with a bronze star in the middle.She also wears rocket boots so she can soar through the sky following me.Just  to finish off her look she wears a navy cape with her name written in cream white writing.Although she does some phenomenal work I don’t pay her but that is so we can keep our cover.

Venum is my arch enemy he is ruthless. Venum is so selfish he has his own recipe to make drugs.You are probaly asking what type of drugs.The medicine drugs.Venum lives in a town called devilville and there his disquise is a doctor.His drugs are poisenus and if he maneges to get it into you atomatically become under his controll.He uses the liquid at the doctors he works at.If a kid  comes in for an imunisation he will take them and instead of  injecting them with the right medicine he will give them his medicine.Never go to the doctors in devilville.

Finally me and my sidekick have made a plan and are brave enough to take on Venum.We both flew to devilville and went to the doctors but it was his day off.So we went to the forest.We had been looking for 1 million years well at least it felt like it.We were getting to the end of the forest when we found a trap door that went down into a whole and on it said do not enter other wise you will regret it.Strat away we thought we found him.We opened the trap door but first we had to get geared up.We slid down and the first thing we saw was a sience lab with jug filled with a slimey green liqued.There is a man over there wearing a white lab coat.A little whisper came from ashley but the lab picked it up and then suddenly a tremendous noise went BEEp BEEP  introder alert.”Oh no we better make a dash for the door.But first just let me catch a glimps of his face.Great now lets go.”

I have to go back home to see my 2 kids and husband but I have to break the truth to them that their dad is venum and I have to tell him how I know.All these ways to tell him were scanning my mind but only 3 were realistic.They 3 were text, call or wait until he got home.We waited 1 month for him to arrive but he never turned up and he wouldn’t return my text or calls so that was the end of that.

Today I used my place value to solve multiplication.

I was learning how to use my place value to solve my multiplication.

So you split the number into your tens and ones and then you times it by the number that you need to multiply it by.

17x5 10x5 + 7x5
          50   +   35 =85                                                                                                                                  I found it hard to do it with out writing it as I go. It would be easy if I had been doing the strategy for awhile.
